Quick answer
Mosquito fogging in Goa kills adult mosquitoes that are in the air when the treatment is applied. Thermal fogging uses heat to make a dense, visible fog that reaches into thick vegetation. ULV cold fogging releases very fine droplets without heat and suits semi-enclosed or more sensitive spaces. Both act quickly but only briefly, so our Goa branch pairs fogging with breeding-site reduction and larviciding.
Key points
- Thermal fogging uses heat to create a dense visible fog; ULV cold fogging uses airflow to make very fine droplets without heat.
- Both methods kill adult mosquitoes only and give short-lived relief; neither reaches larvae in water.
- Fogging works best in calm air around dawn or dusk and during dry spells, not in rain or strong wind.
- Many insecticides used against adult mosquitoes are highly toxic to fish, so ponds and aquariums need to be covered or kept out of the fog path.
- Lasting mosquito control depends on removing or treating breeding water alongside any fogging.
If you are looking for mosquito fogging in Goa, you probably want quick relief. It might be for a wedding on the lawn, a bad week in your housing society compound, or a resort garden before guests come out in the evening. Fogging can provide that relief, but it is often misunderstood.
This page explains what our Goa branch in Chimbel offers. It covers how thermal fogging and ULV cold fogging differ, when each is worth using, and how to keep people, pets and fish safe. It also explains why fogging works best as one part of a wider mosquito control programme.
What is the difference between thermal fogging and ULV cold fogging?
Thermal fogging uses a machine that heats an insecticide formulation until it vaporises. In the cooler air it condenses into a dense white fog of tiny droplets. The fog drifts into hedges, under shrubs, along drains and through thick planting, where adult mosquitoes rest during the day.
ULV (ultra-low volume) cold fogging uses no heat. The machine uses a fast airflow to break a small quantity of liquid into extremely fine droplets. There is little visible cloud and less odour, and very little product is used for the area covered. Because there is no heat or flame, ULV is better suited to semi-enclosed spaces such as basements, stilt parking, store rooms and corridors.
| Thermal fogging | ULV cold fogging | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Heat turns the formulation into a dense fog | Airflow breaks liquid into very fine droplets, without heat |
| What you see | Thick white fog that is clearly visible | Light mist or almost nothing visible |
| Well suited to | Large gardens, dense vegetation, drains, open compounds | Semi-enclosed areas, parking levels, stores, and indoor spaces where the product label allows |
| Things to watch | Odour, reduced visibility, alarm among neighbours who are not warned; not for occupied interiors | Needs calm conditions and careful droplet control; results can be harder to judge by eye |
| Effect on mosquitoes | Both kill adult mosquitoes on contact. Neither reaches larvae in water, and neither gives long-lasting protection. |
What can fogging do, and what can it not do?
Fogging works only on adult mosquitoes that are flying or resting in the treated air at the time. The droplets settle or disperse fairly soon and leave little lasting residue. That makes it good for fast knock-down and poor for prevention.
Fogging does not touch the eggs, larvae or pupae developing in standing water. New adults can emerge from untreated breeding sites within days, and mosquitoes also fly in from neighbouring plots. Fogging alone therefore gives a break, not a solution.
Repeating the same chemistry too often can also help mosquitoes become resistant. This is one reason our Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach uses fogging selectively. That approach starts with inspection, sanitation and proofing advice, and targets treatment only where it is needed.
Where is fogging most useful in Goa?
Resort and hotel gardens
Lawns, pool surrounds, water features and dense tropical landscaping give adult mosquitoes plenty of shade to rest in. Thermal fogging reaches into that cover well. ULV may suit covered walkways and back-of-house areas. We plan treatments around guest movement, so fogging is not done while guests are using the area. Properties along the coastal belt may also find our pages on mosquito control in Calangute and mosquito control in Candolim useful.
Housing society compounds
Common gardens, drains along the boundary wall, stilt parking and clubhouse areas are typical targets. Fogging in a society works best when the committee informs residents in advance, so windows are shut and children and pets stay indoors.
Weddings, functions and events
For an outdoor event, fogging is best done a few hours before guests arrive, which leaves time for the fog to clear. A site check a day or two earlier, to empty containers and clear standing water, makes a noticeable difference to how long the relief lasts.
Commercial and industrial sites
Warehouses, yards and construction sites often have curing water, open tanks and stacked materials that hold rainwater. Fogging can reduce the adults, but removing or treating that water is what keeps numbers down.
When is the best time to fog?
- Early morning or early evening. Many mosquitoes are most active around dawn and dusk, so fogging at these times meets more of them on the wing.
- Calm air. A strong breeze, common near the coast, carries fog away before it can work. Still air keeps it close to the ground where mosquitoes rest.
- Dry spells. Rain washes droplets out of the air. During Goa's heavy south-west monsoon, we schedule fogging in breaks between showers, and repeat visits may be needed more often.
| Period | What is happening | Suggested focus |
|---|---|---|
| Before the monsoon | Containers, gutters and tanks are about to fill | Clean-up, covering tanks, clearing drains |
| Monsoon | Standing water everywhere; breeding is at its peak | Larviciding plus fogging in dry breaks |
| Just after the monsoon | Water lingers in low spots, pots and debris | Breeding-site checks, fogging for adult build-up |
| Drier winter months | Fewer breeding sites, but ponds, tanks and drains remain | Routine checks, targeted treatment where needed |
How do we keep residents, pets and fish ponds safe?
In Goa, we are a licensed pest control operator (Directorate of Agriculture, Goa) and use CIB&RC-registered products, applied according to their label directions. We maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for the products we use. Before treatment, we ask you to:
- Keep windows and doors closed during outdoor fogging, and for as long as the technician advises afterwards.
- Keep children, elderly family members and anyone with asthma or other breathing problems indoors, or away from the area. If anyone feels unwell after a treatment, please see a doctor.
- Bring pets indoors along with their bowls, bedding and toys. Cover or move bird cages.
- Tell us about fish ponds and aquariums. Many insecticides used against adult mosquitoes are highly toxic to fish and other aquatic life. We keep ponds out of the fog path and ask you to cover them, and to close windows near aquariums.
- Tell us about beehives. We avoid fogging flowering plants while bees are foraging.
- Cover drinking-water tanks, wells and outdoor food. Move cushions and clothes indoors, and wash garden produce before eating it.
- Wait until the fog has fully cleared before going back into the area, and wash your hands after touching treated outdoor surfaces.

Why does breeding-site control matter more than fogging?
Mosquitoes develop from egg to larva to pupa in water. In warm weather they can complete this cycle and emerge as adults in about a week. Every container that holds water for that long can produce a new generation, whether or not you fogged last week.
Common breeding spots we look for on Goan properties include:
- Flower-pot saucers, discarded coconut shells, old tyres and buckets
- Plastic sheets or tarpaulins over stacked materials
- Blocked roof gutters, balcony drains and inspection chambers
- Overhead and sump tanks without tight-fitting lids
- Ornamental ponds and fountains with still corners
- Construction curing water, AC drip trays and refrigerator trays
We combine fogging with three other measures. Source reduction means advising you on what to empty, cover, drain or clear. Larviciding treats water that cannot be removed, such as drains and sumps, so larvae do not survive to adulthood. Indoor residual spraying is used where adults rest on walls inside the building. Fogging then knocks down the adults already flying, and the larval work stops the next generation from replacing them.
What happens on a fogging visit?
- Inspection and plan. We look at the property, its breeding sites and its neighbours. We then recommend thermal fogging, ULV, both, or no fogging at all if larval control alone will do.
- Preparation. We tell you what to cover, move or switch off. A representative from your side accompanies the technicians during the service.
- Treatment. Fogging is carried out in suitable weather, together with any larviciding.
- Clearance. We advise you when the area can be used again.
- Report. A service report is shared after the visit, with WhatsApp updates for clients.
You can read more about our approach on our how we work page.
Can fogging be part of a year-round programme?
For housing societies, hotels, resorts and commercial sites, a one-off fogging visit rarely holds for long. Our Annual Maintenance Contracts set out scheduled visits with service reports, so fogging and larval control can be timed to the seasons. For an overview of every mosquito treatment we use, see pest control services for mosquitoes in Goa.
Our Goa branch in Chimbel covers towns including Panaji, Margao, Vasco da Gama, Mapusa, Porvorim, Ponda, Calangute, Candolim and Baga. Tell us about your property, the area you need treated and any ponds, pets or events we should plan around. We will recommend the right mix of treatments. You can find branch details on our Goa branch page.
Frequently asked questions
QHow long does mosquito fogging keep working?
Fogging mainly kills the adult mosquitoes in the air during treatment, and the droplets disperse fairly soon afterwards. How long the relief lasts depends on how many breeding sites remain nearby and on the weather. Rain and wind shorten it. If water-holding containers, drains and tanks are dealt with at the same time, the drop in mosquito numbers lasts noticeably longer than with fogging alone.
QCan you fog inside my flat?
Thermal fogging is not suitable for occupied interiors. ULV cold fogging can be used in some indoor or semi-enclosed spaces, but only where the product label allows it and the space can be vacated for the advised time. For homes, indoor residual treatment of resting surfaces and breeding-site checks on balconies and utility areas are often more practical. The technician will advise after seeing the property.
QWe have a fish pond in the garden. Can you still fog?
Usually yes, with precautions. Many insecticides used against adult mosquitoes are highly toxic to fish, so we keep the pond out of the fog path and ask you to cover it beforehand. Please tell us about ponds, aquariums and water features when you contact us so we can plan the route and timing. Fish in a well-kept pond also help by eating mosquito larvae.
QHow early should we arrange fogging for a wedding or event?
Contact our Goa branch as soon as your date is fixed, because bookings depend on availability. Ideally we visit a day or two before to check for standing water and plan the treatment. Fogging is then done a few hours before guests arrive, which leaves time for it to clear. Tell us the venue layout, the guest areas and any catering setup so food areas can be protected.
QDoes fogging work during the Goa monsoon?
It can, but rain reduces its effect by washing droplets out of the air. During the monsoon we time fogging for dry breaks between showers and expect to repeat visits more often. This is also the season when larval control matters most, because standing water appears almost everywhere. Clearing gutters, covering tanks and emptying containers gives the biggest benefit at this time of year.
QWill the fog leave a smell or residue?
Thermal fogging produces a visible fog and a noticeable odour that fades once it clears. ULV cold fogging uses very little product, leaves little visible mist and has less smell. With either method, it helps to move cushions, clothes and outdoor food indoors beforehand. Wash your hands after touching outdoor surfaces in the treated area, and follow the technician's advice on when to use the area again.
