Quick answer
Our Goa branch in Chimbel provides mosquito control across Margao, including Fatorda, Navelim, Aquem, Borda, Gogol and Comba. Each visit starts with an inspection for breeding water on terraces, tanks, gutters, drains and gardens. We then remove breeding sites, treat water that cannot be emptied, and use indoor residual spraying or fogging where they help. A service report is shared after each visit.
Key points
- Mosquito control in Margao is provided by the Goa branch in Chimbel, covering areas including Fatorda, Navelim, Aquem, Borda, Gogol and Comba.

Mosquito control in Margao works best when it starts with the water, not the sprayer. Our Goa branch in Chimbel serves Margao and neighbourhoods including Fatorda, Navelim, Aquem, Borda, Gogol and Comba. We inspect your property for breeding sites, remove or treat them, and then use indoor residual spraying or fogging only where they will actually help.
This page explains what that looks like for flats, bungalows, housing societies, shops, restaurants and building sites in Margao (also called Madgaon). It also covers what you can do between visits and how to arrange an inspection. For a general overview of the service, see our mosquito control service page.
Why do mosquitoes keep coming back in Margao?
Margao, South Goa's main commercial town, has a warm, humid coastal climate and a very heavy south-west monsoon. That gives mosquitoes exactly what they need: warmth and still water. In warm weather a mosquito can develop from egg to biting adult in roughly a week to ten days, so one forgotten bucket or blocked gutter can restart a problem quickly.
Different mosquitoes prefer different water. The day-biting Aedes mosquito, which can spread dengue and chikungunya, lays eggs in small containers of fairly clean water such as pot trays, stored water and discarded tyres. Culex, the familiar night-time biter, breeds in dirtier water in blocked drains and soak pits. Anopheles, which can carry malaria, generally prefers clean, still water. Aedes eggs can survive dry for months and hatch when water returns, which is why the first rains matter so much.
Because breeding sources are often small and scattered across terraces, compounds and nearby plots, spraying alone rarely holds for long. Finding and removing the water is the part that lasts.
Where do mosquitoes breed on Margao properties?
These are the places our technicians check first. Most of them can be fixed by the household or building staff once they know where to look.
| Where to look | Why it matters | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Overhead and sump tanks, drums, buckets | Uncovered or loosely covered stored water is an ideal breeding site | Tight lids, mesh on vent and overflow pipes, emptying and scrubbing drums weekly |
| Terraces, flat roofs and balconies | Rainwater pools in low spots and behind blocked outlets | Clearing outlets before the monsoon and sweeping away standing water after heavy showers |
| Plant pots, trays and vases | Even a little water is enough for Aedes | Emptying trays weekly and changing vase water often |
| Gutters, chajjas and roof sheets | Leaves block the flow and hold water out of sight | Cleaning before and during the rains |
| Wells and open water storage | Still water open to the air | Mesh covers; ask us what is suitable for water that is used for drinking |
| Drains, chambers and soak pits | Slow, dirty water suits Culex | Keeping drains flowing and covers intact, and sealing gaps |
| Building sites and curing water | Water ponds in foundations, lift pits, curing tanks and scrap | Draining daily, covering stored water and clearing debris |
| Shop backyards and storage areas | Crates, tyres, scrap and tarpaulins collect rainwater | Storing items upside down or under cover and clearing unused material |

What happens during a mosquito control visit?
- Inspection. The technician walks the property inside and out: tanks, terraces, gutters, drains, gardens, parking areas and stores. They also note where adult mosquitoes rest, such as under furniture, behind curtains, in stairwells, basements and other dark, sheltered corners.
- Plan. We explain what we found, what you can fix yourself and what needs treatment. We note sensitive areas such as children's rooms, kitchens and food storage, and ask about pets, infants, elderly family members or anyone with health concerns.
- Breeding-site reduction. Where possible we tip out or remove standing water on the spot and show you the rest.
- Targeted treatment. Larviciding, residual spraying or fogging, chosen for your property and the season, as described below.
- Report and advice. A service report is shared after the visit, with WhatsApp updates for clients. If you are on a scheduled plan, we agree the next visit date.
You can read more about our general approach on our how we work page.
Which treatment methods do we use, and when?
We follow an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach: inspection first, then sanitation and proofing advice, then targeted treatment. Our Goa operation is a licensed pest control operator (Directorate of Agriculture, Goa) and uses CIB&RC-registered products, applied according to label directions.
Breeding-site reduction
Removing, covering or draining water is the foundation of every visit. It costs little, has no chemical residue, and stops new mosquitoes being produced on your property.
Larviciding
Some water cannot be emptied, such as drains, chambers, ornamental water or curing tanks on a site. In these places we may treat the water to stop larvae developing into adults, choosing a method suited to how that water is used.
Indoor residual spraying
Mosquitoes rest on walls and in sheltered corners before and after feeding. A residual treatment applied to selected resting surfaces continues to act for a period after application, which helps in homes, staff quarters and enclosed common areas.
Fogging and ULV
Fogging and ultra-low-volume (ULV) treatments knock down flying adults in gardens, parking areas and open common spaces. The effect is short-lived, so we use them alongside breeding-site work rather than instead of it. Our page on mosquito fogging and ULV treatment in Goa explains when each one is appropriate.
How does mosquito control differ by type of property?
Flats and housing societies
In apartment buildings, most breeding happens in shared spaces: terrace tanks, basements and parking areas, ducts, and drains around the compound. Treating one flat while the terrace holds water gives limited results. We can work with society committees to cover common areas on a schedule, with individual flats treated where residents request it. Our residential pest control in Margao page covers other household pests.
Independent houses and bungalows
Older homes with gardens, wells, tiled roofs and outdoor storage tend to have many small water sources. Here the inspection is the most valuable part, and garden fogging is only worth doing once those sources are under control.
Shops, restaurants, hotels and offices
Around Margao's markets and commercial streets, backyards, rear drains and stored crates are common trouble spots. For food businesses we provide documentation aligned with HACCP and FSSAI audit expectations and keep treatments away from food-contact areas. See commercial pest control in Margao for scheduled programmes covering other pests too.
Building sites and newly completed buildings
Construction sites collect water in foundations, lift pits, curing tanks and scrap. For builders, we look at these sources while work is ongoing and again before handover, so residents do not move into a building with breeding sites already established in the basement or terrace.
When should you schedule mosquito control in Margao?
- Before the monsoon: clear gutters, terrace outlets and stored scrap, and check tank covers.
- During the monsoon: check for pooled water after heavy rain and keep up scheduled visits.
- After the monsoon: water lingers in low spots and containers as the rains ease. Our guide to the post-monsoon mosquito season in Goa explains what to watch for.
- Drier months: attention shifts to stored water, tanks and drains.
How often you need visits depends on the property and the level of the problem. Depending on what the inspection finds, we may recommend weekly, monthly or quarterly visits, or an annual maintenance contract with scheduled visits and service reports.
How do you keep treatment safe?
- Follow the technician's instructions on preparation and re-entry.
- Keep children and pets away from treated areas until surfaces are dry, or for as long as advised.
- Cover or put away food, utensils and drinking water, and cover fish tanks.
- Ventilate rooms after treatment and wash hands after touching treated surfaces.
We maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for the products we use, and you are welcome to ask about them. If anyone in the household develops a fever or feels unwell, please see a doctor.
What does it cost, and how do you arrange a visit?
The cost depends on the size and type of property, the number of areas to treat, how often visits are needed and how serious the problem is. We give a quotation after inspection, and payment is as per the quotation or invoice. Cash, UPI, card, net banking and bank transfer are accepted.
To get started, contact our Goa branch or request an inspection. Tell us which part of Margao you are in, the type of property, and whether the mosquitoes bother you mostly during the day or in the evening. That helps us plan the right visit. For other pests in the town, see our pest control in Margao page.
Frequently asked questions
QHow often should a home in Margao have mosquito treatment?
It depends on the property and how many breeding sources it has. A flat with a well-maintained terrace may need only periodic visits. A bungalow with a large garden, a well and outdoor storage usually needs more regular attention, especially around the monsoon. After the inspection we recommend a schedule, which may be weekly, monthly or quarterly, or an annual maintenance contract with scheduled visits.
QIs fogging alone enough to control mosquitoes?
Usually not. Fogging kills adult mosquitoes that are flying at the time, but the effect does not last. If water is still collecting on the terrace, in pot trays or in drains, new mosquitoes will keep emerging within days. We use fogging as one part of a plan that starts with removing or treating breeding water.
QDo we need to leave the house during treatment?
Often only certain rooms need to be empty for a while, but this depends on the method and the areas being treated. The technician will tell you beforehand which rooms to clear and when it is safe to return. Keep children and pets away from treated surfaces until they are dry, or for as long as advised.
QWill I still see mosquitoes after the visit?
You may see some in the first few days, because adults already flying, or arriving from neighbouring plots, are not all affected at once. Numbers should fall as breeding sites on your property are cleared. If they stay high, it usually means there is a water source we have not yet found, nearby or on the property, and we will look again.
QCan you treat the common areas of a housing society in Fatorda or Navelim?
Yes. Fatorda and Navelim are among the Margao neighbourhoods our Goa branch serves. For societies, we focus on shared areas such as terrace tanks, basements, parking and drains, where most breeding happens. We can agree a schedule with the committee and share a service report after each visit.
QDo you provide records for restaurants and hotels in Margao?
Yes. Service reports are shared after every visit. For food businesses, our documentation is aligned with HACCP and FSSAI audit expectations, recording which areas were covered and what was done. We also plan treatments so that food-contact areas stay protected.
QIs there a warranty on mosquito control?
Our warranties apply to the treated area for specific services, as set out in the service agreement, and vary by pest and treatment. Mosquitoes can fly in from neighbouring properties, so preventing breeding around your home matters too. Please ask us what applies to your mosquito plan before you book.
