How should you prepare your home before the visit?
Good preparation makes treatment more effective and helps stop bed bugs spreading to clean rooms. The main steps are:
- Put bedsheets, pillow covers, curtains and clothes from affected rooms into sealed bags before you carry them out.
- Wash fabrics on the hottest setting the fabric allows, then dry them on high heat. Heat kills bed bugs and eggs in fabric.
- Clear clutter from under beds and around sofas. Do not move unbagged items into other rooms.
- Pull beds and sofas slightly away from the walls so the technician can reach joints and skirting.
- Plan for children and pets to stay out of treated rooms until surfaces are dry, or for as long as the technician advises.
During Goa's heavy south-west monsoon, you may not be able to dry bedding in the sun for days at a time. If you do not have a dryer, mention this when you book. Living in a housing society or renting in Porvorim?

Is it bed bugs, or something else?
Bites alone are not proof of bed bugs. People react very differently, and some show no marks at all. More reliable signs include:
- small dark spots along mattress seams and bed joints;
- rusty smears on sheets;
- pale shed skins;
- live bugs tucked into crevices.
